Lakewood hosted the final of the intermediate Leagues Easter Saturday Morning between Fermoy A and St Stephens which saw Fermoy take the title on a 5/4 win in a very closely fought contest. The conditions were challenging due to the rain on Friday and the dry spell for the past week which made the fairways…

John Curtin was back in the winners enclosure on Wed bagging the Nett with Mick Lehane while looking after the Younger Brother P J for the Gross. PJ added to his tally on Sat to take second nett with John Dineen but lost out to the veteran pairing of Noel McCarthy and Ted Canty who had their first outing together in 5 years, both playing superb Pitch & Putt. It was like a Summers day with the Championship Course in play and both the greens and fairways freshly cut made for a most enjoyable afternoon. Billy Fitton and John O’Sullivan claimed the Gross. Sunday Morning saw one of the smallest crowds for a while with 19 playing but again the sun was out and the course was challenging but Bart Millard was in splendid form with 7 dykes on the back nine to take the nett with Pat Conway and once again putting Ted Canty in the winners enclosure for gross. Some great shooting with 3 pairing on the same Nett which saw Frank Riordan and Dan Shine take second Nett from Val and John Dineen on the back nine with the handicap advantage. Normal fourballs over the Easter Break with a little surprise planned for Easter Sunday Morning. Club Strokeplay on Sunday April 23rd, draw for partners at 10.30 am and again at 14.30 for those with no planned arrangement.

A number of Bravehearts ventured out on Wednesday last and while they all got a free cold shower P J Curtin and Mary O’Donovan won the Nett while Sheila O’Leary and John Ahern took the gross and earned the cost of hot showers provided by Irish Water and Electric Ireland. Saturday saw Pat Conway in Superwoman mode as she flew around the course with Billy Fitton on one arm and Mick Lehane on the other to take both Nett and Gross with a magnificent 8 under including a hole in one on the fifteenth. Mary O’Donovan and Noel McCarthy took second Nett on the back nine. Sunday Morning saw the Intermediate Team in action in Rocklodge against St Anne’s in the County Leagues. There was some great entertainment from both teams with Lakewood taking the honours on a 5-4 win. To be fair the conditions were shocking and great credit to all of the players, it could have went either way as the fourballs were the determining factor which saw the three of them going to tie holes while the singles finished up with a 3-3 draw. Sunday afternoon Mary O’Donovan again performed and with some help from Gretchen Ahern sent Noel McCarthy home with his winnings for the Nett while John Curtin had a very enjoyable game with Pat Conway and Catherine O’Keeffe for the Gross. Normal Fourballs next week and again the intermediate team are playing away to Rocklodge at Rafeen Creek.

The Summery weather today brought out a fine group and as it worked out nicely we had threeball with two out of three scores to count. There was some great scoring with Sheila O’Leary and Josie Twomey giving Dan Shine a fast tour of the course shooting a magnificent 13 under with 20 coming off to Nett at 75 while the dynamic trio, Billy Fitton,Mick Lehane and John Dineen won the Gross with a fine score of 16 under. Fourball in the morning at 11 am and in the afternoon at 3 pm
