Saturday saw some hot blooded Members playing in the afternoon four ball. While the day looked lovely from the comfort of the armchair looking out it was a different story altogether participating in a game of pitch and putt. Geraldine Spillane and Noel Mac made the best of it and returned a very respectable 41 nett to take home the overall nett prize while Michael Ryan and Kevin Crowley putting in some practice for Sunday morning were the gross winners with 4 under.

Sunday saw our Intermediate Team share the points with Douglas, well done to all/

Sunday afternoon a small turnout with John Spillane and Eileen Murphy taking the nett with 44 while Noel Mac was the gross winner with Gretchen Ahern on par

Normal four balls next weekend and the Family Day organised by Teresa is on at 2pm on Sunday.

Another good turnout on Saturday with some fair weather and some good Pitch & Putt. Gentleman John made a return after an enforced absence but unfortunately for John Spillane he will have to put in a bit of practice to get back to his winning ways. Noel Mac was in fine form looking fit and raring for action while Alan Kenneally and Micky Ryan were after an 18 hole warmup. Sheila O’Leary left her clubs behind in the Clubhouse after the last fourball and didnt get a chance to polish them. Pat Conway drew her Card Partner Catherine O’Keeffe but it was not to be while Josie Twomey was celebrating after taking the nett with Mark Spillane with a score of 37.5 while Micky and Kevin Crowley had to settle for second nett with 5 under and a 41,5 nett after a disastrous 5 on the 13th hole. Billy Fitton was playing some of his best Pitch and Putt and made sure that Pat Moore had enough to cover his petrol costs by taking the gross with 6 under,

Sunday morning saw the ESB intermediate and Junior League teams in action against Kilshannig Junior and St Anne;s Intermediate. Some of the young guns on the Kilshannig team were shooting well but the the slow and steady play from the ESB campaigners ensured a half from one of the fourballs.

Sunday afternoon a small crowd ventured away from the Ireland v Italy Match which saw Frank Riordan, Pat Conway and John Spillane take the nett with 88 and two thirds.

Congratulations to our Intermediate Team who won the league Match 7/2 to keep them in the running. With two matches left they are still in with a chance.

Family Fun Day, open to all Families on Sunday March  3rd from 2pm to 4pm.

Saturday saw a very good turnout for the Captains Day hosted by Mary O’Donovan and John Dineen. The Gents were very busy in the Kitchen baking the biscuits while the Ladies brought some lovely goodies, cakes, sandwiches and the homemade apple tart. Plenty of booze but no takers, strictly tea and

1st Nett went to – Teresa Venables and Geraldine Spillane with 33; 1st Gross with 48, Michael Ryan and Paddy Dennehy; 2nd Nett with 40, Alan Keanneally and Deirdre O’Sullivan and finally best back 9 with 24, Pat Conway and Mark Spillane.

Sunday afternoon: Michael Ryan and John Spillane with 38.

Bank Holiday Monday morning: 1st Nett with 52pts., Michael Ryan and Donnacha Fitton; 1st Gross, John Spillane and John Dineen with 39 pts. on back 9; 2nd Nett with 50 pts., Mark Spillane and Mary O’Donovan.

Well done to the Intermediate who put up a very goid showing against Rocklodge A taking 3.5 of the score and keeping themselves still in the equation.

Normal fourballs next weekend, Membership available for 2024

Saturday saw a nice sized crowd for the four ball with some familiar faces making their first appearances for 2024. The numbers were balanced for a three ball competition with two scores to count, while on paper there were some great combinations but the course provided a serious challenge. Alan Kenneally, Eileen Murphy and Sheila O’Leary took the nett with a score of 91 while Pat Conway, Billy Fitton and Bart Millard were the gross winners on par.

Sunday the Club hosted the County League Match between Bishopstown A and Bishopstown B Junior Teams while the Lakewood Intermediate Team played St Stephens in Collins. It wasn’t their day as they lost two of the fourballs and halved the other which was a big challenge for the singles. However they redeemed themselves with three wins in the singles with St Stephens taking the honours on a 5and a half to three and a half victory but there is a long way to go,

The Captains day will go ahead next Saturday at 11.30 and all Members are welcome.. Membership available, details on the Home Page

The final weekend of the Christmas Competitions and the last chance to bag a prize. Unfortunately all the handicaps were restored for the bottle competition with some familiar faces back in the winners enclosure. John Ahern brought out some of his best performances over the weekend taking the overall nett with Sheila O’Leary and the overall gross with Michael Ryan who returned from a muscle injury and complaining that his game wasn’t up to standard but with a score of  8 under they won on the back nine pipping Mick O’Leary and Bart Millard who had to settle for second gross. Second Nett went to Alan Kenneally and John Spillane with 40 and a half while Alan also took home 3rd Gross with Noel McCarthy with 7 under. The Fitton Combo of Father and Son, Billy and Donnacha took third nett with 41 with some great play mostly from Donnacha but when needed Billy was able to rise to the occasion..A lot of ifs and buts were discussed including Noel Mac who finally succeeded in getting into the winners enclosure and hoping for a Voucher for M&S  after spending two four balls with Pat Moore whose left hand was trying to tell his right that the new Captain, John Dineen hadn’t changed the greens over the weekend. Paddy and Val had a side competition who could hit the ball higher and on this occasion Val was the winner as one of the balls went so high it ended up in Santa’s Sleigh while he was on a practice run for next week.  Eileen Murphy and Billy Fitton were both seen promoting their sponsors’ sportswear over the weekend  while Betty White was showing off the new grip on her putter. Those of us who were at the presentation yesterday were delighted with the beautiful Mince Pies that Teresa brough straight from the Oven, especially Frank who was seen on his second. Gentleman John was conspicuous by his absence but it was rumoured that he went to the Liverpool V Man U match to spur on his  team.

Finally the Committee would like to wish all Members, Sponsors and Supporters a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and New Year with just a reminder that there is a four ball daily to help with the weight and fitness programme. Membership for 2024 is available through the contact page on the website
