Lakewood hosted the final of the intermediate Leagues Easter Saturday Morning between Fermoy A and St Stephens which saw Fermoy take the title on a 5/4 win in a very closely fought contest. The conditions were challenging due to the rain on Friday and the dry spell for the past week which made the fairways hard and the greens slippery.
Wed Pat Curtin and John O’Sullivan were a great combination for Nett while Pat Conway had a great round with John Dineen to bag the Gross. Good Friday Billy Fitton, Paddy Dennehy and John Curtin pipped Pat Conway, Frank Riordan and Michael Healy for the Nett with the Gross going to Noel McCarthy, Pat Moore and Tim Linehan. Saturday Night was a big night for the Fairway Cutter Pat Twomey who celebrated a big Birthday with friends and relations in newly renovated Lakewood Bar but there was a big turnout on Easter Sunday Morning with Pat Conway bringing along Easter Eggs to add to the prizes which saw John O’Sullivan and Betty White, who had a great card, beating Frank Riordan and Dan Shine for the Nett by a fraction of a shot on the back nine, while Val O’Leary and John Dineen took the gross but Dan Shine and Frank Riordan went home with a chocolate fix winning the 2nd Nett, Billy Fitton and Sheila O’Leary won 2nd Gross with 3rd Nett going to Noel McCarthy and John Curtin. Sunday Evening Dermot Murphy, Pat Conway and John Dineen took the Gross in a Three Ball Scramble but both Betty White and John O’Sullivan made a clean sweep of the Nett with Val O’Leary.
Monday morning Catherine O’Keeffe, Josie Twomey and Dan Shine ran away with the Nett while Bart Millard, John Dineen and Dermot Murphy won the gross with the course changed to provide a bit of variety. Monday Evening John Curtin anchoring Billy Fitton and Noel McCarthy took Nett and 2nd Nett while Pat Conway was also back in the winners enclosure with Alison Harvey closing off the long weekend for the Gross Prize.
