Lakewood Notes w/e 2/7/17

This was a very busy week for the club members starting on Wednesday with the annual visit to Inniscarra Pitch & Putt Club. This is one of the highlights of the year as it is an occasion that is eagerly awaited and for those that attend it’s a super night. Pat Conway and Ita O’Donovan were the overall winners while Pat Moore and Noël Hennessy took the gross. Some of the usual suspects, John Curtin, Mary O’Donovan, Noel McCarthy and Mick Lehane also featured but the real winners on the night were the Inniscarra ladies who provided the lovely goodies and the welcome cuppa at the 19th hole. It was a tossup on the night who could hit the highest ball between Paddy Dennehy, Lakewood and Donal O’Regan, Inniscarra but the honour had to go to Donal who damaged a cloud and brought down a small downpour.

The Captains Prize was very well supported as was the Captains Night and Bar-B-Q , unfortunately the Gents Captain, Billy Fitton was laid up for most of the weekend but he managed an appearance on the night of the presentation which saw his travelling buddy and playing partner in the scratch cup circuit John Curtin winning the Gents Prize, which Billy put down to two years of solid training, while Valerie O’Leary was the winner of the Ladies Prize. Pat Conway, Ladies Captain and Billy Fitton the Gents Captain put up two beautiful prizes and also arranged a brilliant night on the Friday both Val and John were popular winners and there is a rumour that John won’t need the kilt that he had ordered.

Other winners included Gretchen Ahern and John O’Sullivan’ who won the overall gross’s. In the graded competition Betty White and Pat Moore took the 1st Nett while Rick O’Mahony and Pat Conway took the respective gross with 2nd Nett going to Margaret Bowen and Mick O’Leary.

Sunday night’s three ball saw Gretchen Ahern, P J Curtin and Catherine O’Keeffe taking the Nett while John O’Sullivan, Noel McCarthy and Frank Riordan won the gross. There were times when Frank and Noel tried to escape and fall in with the other threeball’s as did Pat Moore but that was accredited to sunstroke from playing too much over the weekend.

Normal Fourballs resume over the weekend with a 27 hole organised for the 7.30 fourball on Sunday 9th July
