Saturday the Club travelled west to Ballineen for their annual outing which saw a good sized turnout. The weather held out with the sun peeping out but the rain stayed away. BEDA is a tough course as its split into two halves while the front nine is slightly easier there are some difficult shots. One needs to be very accurate on the back nine as there are a lot of trees to negotiate. The two ball scramble in the morning saw Paddy Dennehy and Eileen Murphy taking the overall nett with 44 and a half while Bart Millard and Con O’Sullivan were the overall gross winners with6 under. Second nett went to Gretchen Ahern and Alison Harvey, while third went to John Ahern and Josie Twomey. Second gross saw Sheila O’Leary and Dermot Murphy pipping Catherine O’Keeffe and Noel McCarthy who had to settle for third.
The fourball in the afternoon saw Paddy Dennehy in fine fettle taking the overall gross with Pat Moore while John Ahern was again drawn with Josie Twomey and took the overall nett. Second nett went to JP and Margaret Bowen while third saw Noel Mac and Pat O’Keeffe in the winners. Second gross went to John Dineen and Pat Conway leaving third gross to Bart and Alison.
Some of the diehards went back out for a third round and giving Paddy Dennehy and Josie Twomey a clean sweep who along with Rick O’Mahony took the nett with 11 under and a nett of 32 and two thirds to claim the overall nett while Betty White, Pat Conway and John Dineen were the gross winners.
The Copper Grove in Bandon was the venue for the meal afterwards and what a spread was put up to us. With a wide selection of foods from the A La Carte Menu and the Chef making sure that we were all fit to burst after the superb arrangement of food everyone went home happy.
