Saturday saw a cracking turnout to help celebrate the Lakewood Pitch and Putt Club’s 50th Anniversary. The fourball  drew a mixture of current and former members in a mix and match which saw some super scoring.  John Ahern and John Dineen took the overall nett with 39.5 while Joe Murphy after a long absence from the game took the gross with Rick O’Mahony  with 5 under.Guest player  Ann Lucey, more used to a tennis ball  than a golf ball made it into the winners enclosure partnering  Kevin Crowley to take 2nd nett with 40.5.  2nd gross  went to Alan Kenneally and Ted Canty also on 5 under but beaten on the back 6. Bart Millard  was blessed to draw Jill O’Sullivan who hasn’t played for a few years but showed  that she still has it and they won 3rd nett with a score of 42. Finally with a score of 43  Alan O Brien and John Spillane were there for 4th nett  while  4th  gross  went to Paddy  Dennehy and Alan Foley with 3 under. Some great craic in the clubhouse afterwards where young and old enjoyed the food, beverages and music until the late hours. It was great to see some of the founder members present  and also The Social Club President Richard Wood made one of his rare appearances. A lot of credit to the social committee who reached out to the former members, arranged the food and made sure that everything was in place to ensure that everyone enjoyed the night. The course was in great condition considering the heavy rain on Friday. Sunday a few hearty members made the morning fourball  which saw John Spillane taking the overall nett with Catherine O’Keeffe with 38.5 nett while Paddy Dennehy and Rick O’Mahony with 6 under were the gross winners. Noel Mac and John Ahern covered their petrol costs from Macroom with 2nd nett on 43.5.Sunday evening a small turnout saw John Spillane on a hat trick entering the winners enclosure with Pat Conway and Kevin Crowley .Normal fourballs next weekend and the course is open to green fees.
