Now that the second of the Major Competitions is done and dusted and normal fourballs are back on the cards the panic disappears and the standard goes back up. Wednesday Pat O’Keeffe and Gentleman John took the nett with a score of 39 while Pat Conway and Rick O’Mahony were the gross winners. Saturday Val O’Leary was impressive taking the nett with Margaret Bowen while Sheila O’Leary put the skids under John Dineen to take the gross. Sunday morning attracted a large crowd with Margaret Bowen again in the winners enclosure this time with Bart Millard taking second nett while Val O’Leary was also included partnering Frank Riordan to take the gross. The Senior Pairing of Dan Shine and Mary Donovan were the nett winners with 7 under netting at 35. Gentleman John was giving advice to Josie Twomey telling her to hit it hard at the beginning so that it would settle down and perch on the greens when it got tired. Josie subsequently got three birdies in a row, John is now thinking about enrolling in the Course for Coaches. The Summer Leagues are on their second round and we are trailing badly but looking at the sunny side. Sunday evening Rick O’Mahony was in the winners enclosure again with Michael Healy fresh from two days of First Holy Communion while JP Murphy surfaced to take the gross with John Dineen. The Club Handicap Matchplay commenced on Tuesday with some interesting combinations including Catherine O’Keeffe who made her debut for 2019 this week and rumour has it that she is planning on not taking prisoners.
