Wednesday saw a nice turnout for the midweek fourball which saw some very tough conditions with the hot and dry weather making the greens very fast and with the placing of some of the holes it was a very challenging event. However while some struggle others flourish which was the case as Val O’Leary, Alan Kenneally and John Healy proved, coming in with 7 under and netting at 89 and two thirds to take the overall nett while Mary Murphy, Noel Mac and Billy Fitton were the gross winners with 3 under. Thursday night Alan Kenneally and John Ahern pipped Pat Twomey and Margaret Burke in the first semi-final of the combined handicap matchplay competition and will meet Mick O’Leary and Paddy Dennehy in the Final on Friday Night. Pat Twomey and Margaret Burke made use of their shots in the first round but lost out on the second and tied holes where they had shots which allowed John and Alan an advantage. In the second semi final Mick and Paddy were taken to the 35th hole by Frank Riordan and Sheila O’Leary but Franks putt on the 17th took on a life of its own and gave Sheila an impossible shot to make par which gifted Mick and Paddy the game. Best of luck to both teams in tonight’s final.
