Saturday brought out a fine crowd as it was both sunny and also the last opportunity to play the course before the Club Stroke Competition which was held on the Sunday. Saturday saw Billy Fitton and Mary O’Donovan taking the nett with 54 points while Pat O’Keeffe and Catherine were the second nett winners on 51 points. Gretchen Ahern and Niall Enright took the gross with 8 under,Sunday a fine crowd were on the course playing in the 36 hole Club Strokeplay Competition. A lot of quiet and not so quiet mumerings with bad pitches, bad chips, missed putts and very fast greens plus the Full Championship course was in play which for some was a challenge. Some excellent shooting given how hard the course was playing which saw Bart Millard back on the pedestal taking the honours with an excellent eight under. Valerie O’Leary was the Ladies Champion with a very respectable 2 over while Patricia Conway was the Ladies Runner Up. New Members John Healy and Niall Enright took the graded Gents prizes both with 105 gross. John was the 1-6 Winner while Niall took the 7-14 Prize. The Course was in magnificent condition , fast green, fairways were just right for the long chips and the first cut gave a choice of chip or putt. Fair play to Mick, Pat and JP for the trojan work on the course ably assisted by Michael from the CE Scheme whose term is coming to an end and who will be sadly missed as his work on the course and complex is second to none. Pat O’Keeffe arranged for the changing of the holes on the Friday and changed the Course on saturday after the fourball. As Pat said its amazing what information is available on You Tube.Sunday night Val O’Lear and Pat Conway teamed up to take the sunday Evening Fourball while Pat Moore and Sheila O’Leary took trhr gross beating Noel MacCarthy and John Dineen on the back nine but they took home second gross while Eileen Murphy and Alan Kenneally took second nett.It was sad to hear that a former Club Member and former Committee Member, John O’Donoghue passed on Saturday. John was very well known in the Pitch and Putt Family playing in the Junior Leagues over the years and spent a lot of time with his Friend and Neighbour the Late John Coleman. John was a Gentle Soul who will be fondly remembered by all those who knew and played with him.Membership is available and family plans are on offer for those that want to spend quality time in the fresh air having fun.
