Lakewood President’s Prize 2021

Gentleman John Curtin had an excellent turnout for his President’s Prize Competition over the weekend with nearly 200 cards played. This shows the high esteem that John is held. Sunday morning was possibly the hottest of the weekend and in case there was a soul or two suffering from enforced dehydration John was on hand with bottles of water to help the Members keep their concentration. Billy Fitton was also seen toiling away in deep concentration working on the cards to ensure that all was right and that the prizes went to the right people. Alan Kelly was in great form returning a superb ten under and taking the overall gross while returning member Deirdre O’Sullivan put in the supreme effort and was the worthy winner of the magnificent canteen of cutlery that John presented as his prize. Pat Moore led the charge into the winners enclosure for the other prizes on offer taking the Gents nett with 6 under to nett at 88 with Dermot Murphy taking 2nd Nett with 89 while Bart Millard won the Gents Gross with 5 under. The Ladies were well represented with Jill O’Sullivan taking the Ladies nett on 86 close on the heels of Mother,  Deirdre and Josie Twomey entering the enclosure for the Ladies 2nd Nett with 92 while Valerie O’Leary took the Ladies Gross with one under. The best back nines went to PJ Curtin for the Gents and Catherine O’Keeffe for the Ladies. There were some highs and lows over the course of the competition with balls hitting bushes and trees, not properly trained to jump into the holes and attacking the crows who had the audacity to be seen on the greens during play. As usual Mick O’Leary, Pat Twomey and JP Murphy had the course in fantastic condition with Gentleman John summing it, comparing it to Atlanta.. The fourball on Sunday night prior to the Presentation saw Billy Fitton putting in from all angles partnering the winner of the Presidents Prize, Deirdre O’Sullivan  in a Scotch Foursome Fourball to take the nett with 44 while Frank Riordan and Pat O’Keeffe were second on 45 with Mick O’Leary and Josie Twomet winning the gross.Club Fourballs next weekend and the course is open for Green Fees as normal.Best of Luck to all the competitors in the PJ Bell Competition next Sunday in the Ranges.
