Wednesday’s fourball should have seen the commencement of the Christmas Competitions instead under the new restrictions it was the last four-ball for the foreseeable future. Frank Riordan started well with three birdies on the trot and continued for 16 holes picking up another two with his partner Mary O’Donovan chipping in on the 18th but fell by the wayside with two to go taking two bogies. However they had enough done to secure the nett finishing with a 39.On the other side Bart and JP were drawn together and JP in his usual fashion was carrying out a thorough inspection of the course but with a finish of 4 under it was enough to keep the pack at bay and secure the gross. PJ Curtin made a surprise guest appearance and was very unlucky with his finishing but the missed putt on the 18th was the difference between winning and what if. The course is taking a well deserved rest for the next few weeks but coursework will continue as it will be pampered by Mick, Pat and JP who will ensure that its groomed, shampooed, trimmed and showered on a daily basis and will be ready for the members return in 6 weeks time..
Sporting Ireland has issued a directive to all Golf and Pitch and Putt clubs to close from Midnight tonight until further notice to ensure compliance with the Government Restrictions under Level 5. Hopefully this lockdown will reduce the numbers affected so that some form of normality will prevail over the Christmas period and that the business community will weather the latest setback to getting their businesses back on track and survive into 2021.
