Final chance to practice before the commencement of the Christmas Competitions that is provided we have not gone into Lockdown. Nice crowd and the weather stayed fine which helps to bring some form of normality to one’s day. Gentleman John was thrilled to draw Rick O’Mahony who like his favourite team is on a roll at the moment and today added another win when he took the gross with John on 4 under. The course is playing tough so nothing is taken for granted and  Catherine O’Keeffe can confirm this as she took second nett with Betty White with a score of one under and a nett of 42 but Margaret Burke and Pat Moore had the handicap advantage which saw them in the winners enclosure with a nett of 40.5. John Dineen and Josie Twomey were in a nightmare as everytime they got a birdie a bogey followed. Frank Riordan was seen  chipping in on a number of occasions but unfortunately he was also missing putts. Eileen Murphy drew Jack O’Keeffe but the gelling didn’t start to come until towards the end and to coin a phrase was too little too late. Margaret Bowen and Mary O’Donovan had the handicap advantage but on this occasion it needed more. While Pat Conway was giving Newbie Mark Mulcahy the guided tour Darren O’Leary and Paddy Dennehy were coming up short. Gretchen Ahern was anchor to Frank and JP and on a number of occasions was like piggy in the middle with one going long and the other playing short.

Sunday morning saw some good shooting but John Ahern and Josie Twomey took home the overall nett while John Dineen and Robert Spillane were the gross winners. Betty White and Jack O’Keeffe took second nett while Rick O’Mahony and Mary Murphy pipped Pat Conway and Dan Shine for second gross on the back nine. Mary Murphy’s chip for a par on the sixth saved Rick’s blushes as he went all out for the birdie and left himself a long putt for par but Mary saved the day. Sunday evening saw some diehards on the course resulting in Jack O’Keeffe, Pat Moore and Pat Conway taking the nett with 2 scores out of three to count. Jack O’Keeffe is hitting such a high ball that Billy Fitton will have to email Cork Airport the playing times to make sure that there is no passing air-traffic. Hopefully the promised restrictions will allow for non contact sport to continue as is and that the Christmas Competitions will go ahead as planned.

Wishing Seamus Jolley a speedy recovery after his recent operation and looking forward to seeing him back in the club in the near future. Wednesday at 3 sees the commencement of the Christmas Competition with the Christmas Fayre.
