Some bit of normality in this unsettling times out in Lakewood but then again with regards to Lakewood what is considered as normality. Having made the draw on Saturday for three balls we discovered we had two dressed for play, paid their script but forgot to put their name down so it was back to the drawing board and the draw was redone for the fourball. In fairness to the committee the PPI Guidelines in place and the additional precautions makes it as safe as can be, social distancing, mask wearing and the new automatic sanitiser in the clubhouse plus Gentleman John sterilising the entry fees helps to make it as safe as possible. Speaking of Gentleman John his luck was definitely in as he drew Ann O’Herlihy on both Saturday and again Sunday morning and they took the nett on both occasions with 38. Frank Riordan and Rick O’Mahony were the gross winners on Saturday with six while second nett went to Eileen Murphy and Mary O’Donovan, Eileen shooting five under leaving Val O’Leary and Josie Twomey to take second gross beating John Ahern and John Dineen on the back nine.

Sunday saw some great shooting but Rick O’Mahony and Val O’Leary did enough on the back nine to deprive Tim Linehan and Robert Spillane who had to settle for 2nd gross while Betty White and Jack O’Keeffe were the winners of second nett. Sunday evening Gentleman John lost out as Ann O’Herlihy completed her treble scoring 10 up with Paddy Dennehy while Darren O’Leary partnering Catherine O’Keeffe pipped his Mother Val  and Pat Conway with the last card for gross. The Club AGM is set for S at 14th but that is dependent on the level status set by the Government to combat the Coronavirus. Until told otherwise fourballs are as scheduled and the Christmas Competitions will kick off on the long weekend.
