Presidents Prize 2020

A fitting tribute to our esteemed President, John Curtin who had a very successful 2020 Competition considering the times we are in and with the extra due care and attention that people are paying to the surroundings, social aspects and avoidance of large numbers. Over 50 members  participated and returned  the required 2 cards with some playing three four and one individual played eight. Frank summed it up at the outset of the presentation when he said that Gentleman John is held in the highest regard and that Club Members showed their respect by the high level of participation in the competition.Valerie O’Leary was the popular winner shooting a great score of 85 nett and 9 under to take the magnificent prize that John put up. The Course was in magnificent shape thanks again to the efforts of the course team, Mick, Pat and the three John’s along with the CES Staff Member Michael and while the holes were in playable positions the weather made the going extremely difficult with the majority of us floundering and making a complete hames of the cards trying to keep the fours at bay.Robert Spillane lost out in the Captains Prize but with a superb score of 11 under made sure of the overall gross on this occasion while Mary O’Donovan took 1st Nett for the Ladies pipping Betty White on handicap who had to settle for gross while the Lady Captain took second nett.. Over in the Gents Dan Shine took the 1st Nett, one great card but he failed to put something with it while Frank Riordan was the 2nd nett winner and Alan Kelly took the 1st Gross with 8 under. The Best back nines went to Alison Harvey and Pat Moore, Some excellent play for some with a little birdie telling me that PJ Curtinhad a pitch of 20 metres on the 6th but recovered and chipped over the tree for a 40 Metre +  into the hole. The Little Birdie ( who  May or May not be related to PJ  asked if the ball could be checked for a tracking device. To finish the weekend competition the 6 pm fourball saw a large turnout with PJ Curtin and Margarert Burke taking the nett while Val O’Leary took the gross with son Darren on seven under..John Ahern and Dermot Murphy took the 2nd Nett while Frank Riordan and Betty White were there for 2nd Gross. The good news is like Groundhog Day it will be repeated next year and no doubt Val will do her best to do a double and equal Dave Linehabn who did a back to back at the turn of the Century.Normal Fourballs next weekend and the Course will be closing to Green Fees at months end in order to rest the greens for the Winter Months
