Normal Fourballs resumed this weekend with the usual Saturday gang in residence. Gentleman John prayed, pleaded and promised the earth , moon and stars but to no avail he was drawn with younger sibling PJ and had to suck it up and get on with it. However Lady Luck smiled on him as PJ is in tip top form and with a 38.5 nett they were guaranteed a little Christmas Bonus while Billy Fitton and Noel Mac had to concede to John Ahern and John Dineen who took the gross with 5 under. Billy had a few bad misses which made the difference in winning and losing including the one over par on the on the fifth and missing the putts on 15 and 17. The two Johns did enough to secure the win on the back nine with 4 of the 5 scored on the back six. Val O’Leary and Sheila O’Leary were the only two ladies that ventured out into the cold but as Sheila said its good to be out in the fresh air and clear the head. Sunday morning was a different story with another medium sized crowd but this time it was all males, its too close to the big day for the girls and of course its all go to make sure that Santa’s treats are made and prepared for his visit down the chimney. Gentleman John was looking forward to partnering PJ again but on this occasion Billy Fitton put his foot down and drew PJ for himself taking the gross with 11 under, PJ with seven and Billy with four with a nett of 36.5 but it wasn’t good enough to take the overall nett as JP and Frank Riordan had a magnificent game with 8 under equally divided with four apiece to nett at 36. Rumour had it that Frank was up at the early dawn and was seen practicing in the back garden while JP cut back and only had time to swish the greens leaving the fairways stand for another occassion. The next instalment of the Lakewood Chronicles wont be until 2020 so until then from all in Lakewood have a great holiday, and wishing all our members, in the Lakewood Complex, Families, Friends, Sponsors and Supporters a very Happy and Healthy New Year and hopefully we will do it all again in 2020.
