The weekend saw the final of the Christmas Competition which saw some determined Braveheart’s venture out into the cold and rain to take on the might of the course and the elements for the Christmas Grog. Some great shooting but Frank Riordan and Tim Linehan were the best combination of the weekend shooting eight under to take the overall nett with 36.5 while Gentleman John and Val O’Leary stepped up to the mark and took the overall gross with 5 on the back nine including Gentleman John’s hole in one on the 11th beating Eileen Murphy and Rick O’Mahony also with 8 but with 4 on the back nine and Mick O’Leary and Pj Curtin who had two on the back nine also with 8 gross. PJ had to settle for 2nd nett with Mick Healy and his magic putter, Mick was seen firing in two birdies on the 14th and 15th from 8 feet off the fairway. Eileen and Rick took second gross while John Ahern and Tim Linehan took 3rd nett beating his better half Gretchen Ahern and partner Gentleman John on the back nine on handicap by three quarters of a shot. Mick O’Leary didn’t go home empty handed as he was one of the recipients of the lucky dip along with Sheila O’Leary, Paddy Dennehy. The tree near the 7th tee box let Paddy Dennehy know how it felt to get a wallop of the ball as it retaliated today with a stinging strike that nearly knocked him off the tee box. Billy Fitton was up late over the weekend putting the finishing touches to his Christmas week schedule of events and posted them on the notice board.Lakewood wishes all of the members , green fees, sponsors and supporters a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
