Wednesday P J Curtin and Mary O’Donovan took the nett while Gentleman John and John Ahern were the gross winners. This was a practice run for them as they bagged the bird on week 2 of the Christmas Competition taking the nett with an excellent score of 51 points while Alan Kelly in shooting form took the gross with Tim Linehan. Some interesting combinations over the weekend including the pairing of John Dineen and Mary O’Donovan. Mary started well with a birdie on the 13th and 18th showing off her senior skills and another on the third but ran out of steam after the 6th and unfortunately John didn’t have the handicap to capitalise but they finished well on 50 points. Mick Healy in the same fourball said there was a lovely smell of turkey but alas the oven was turned on prematurely. Pat O’Keeffe was in super form on Sunday with Rick O’Mahony but Rick’s luch wasn’t with him as he missed out a number of times, skimming the hole, dropping short, in and out, it just didn’t happen. Darren O’Leary was also in great form but it takes two to make the team and unfortunately Pat Moore wasn’t performing. Billy Fitton is training in a new club and hopes to have it ready by Christmas. Nice to see Paddy Dennehy back playing over the weekend, The big winner this week was Eileen Murphy who took the kitty for the hole in one competition all alone as she was the only hole in one for October. Rumour has it that she blew it all in the bar at the County Board Quiz held in Lakewood on Friday. The Lakewood Team in the Quiz did very well but the questions didn’t suit. The Rocklodge Team were the winners with a magnificent score of 76. The Club AGM is on Thursday night and all Members are requested to attend. Week 3 of the Christmas competition continues next weekend with the dreaded Bogey on the cards.
