Interesting weekend, some good pitch and putt, reasonable weather, mighty craic and intellectual conversation. PJ Curtin and Josie Twomey had a great card with 37 nett, interesting seeing that they were both complaining about their putting and ended up 6 under. Noel Mac was in great form on Sunday morning and combined with Val O’Leary they shot 6 under to take the gross. Noel was seen searching for his ball on the sixth which was eventually found under a leaf, The Council duo of Tim Linehan and Dan Shine took second nett beating Val O’Leary and Gretchen Ahern on the back nine on handicap. With the cuts inflicted for the wins all the winners will have to up their game over the coming weeks. The rain was very accommodating by staying away until the competition ended. Its not all about winning and taking part, there is the social aspect which includes riveting conversation and some friendly ball hopping as evidenced on Saturday when Catherine and Billy were discussing pros and cons of the ups and downs. Gentleman John has got the planning approval to move on with the putting unit and has roped Billy Fitton into the development. Rick O’Mahony was back over the weekend having visited Israel and walked in the shoes of God as part of a family pressie for a Big Birthday celebrated lately. A little Birdie mentioned that Val O’Leary also has a big Birthday coming up this week. Happy Birthday Val and Rick. But topping them all is the upcoming Birthday of our former Club President, Joe Kavanagh who will be celebrating his 105th Birthday this week, Rumour has it that Paddy Dennehy was seen out and about so it shouldn’t be much longer and he will be back on the course and hopefully bag a bird for Christmas. The County Board Quiz is on this Friday in the Lakewood Bar with Frank Riordan in the role of Quizmaster and Betty is organising the sandwiches.
