Saturday saw Mrs Curtin’s boys PJ and big brother Gentleman John scoring a magnificent 33 nett with PJ popping home seven birdies and John three to finish with 10 under and with the 11 coming off the gross there was no catching them. While the crowd was small in comparison to the normal Saturday fourball the standard was high with a couple of netts under the forty which on other days would be in the reckoning. Pat Moore and John Dineen shot seven under to take the gross, John Dineen was getting frustrated with Pat who was seen taking detours to the greens and then missing the putts with at least two from under two feet but made up on the back nine with some superb chipping while John was solid on green after green. It took a while for Pat Conway and Darren O’Leary to gel and after a slow start finished with a parry but it was too little too late. Paddy Dennehy and Margaret Bowen started well but their finishing left them down. John Ahern and Josie Twomey had the handicap advantage but it wasn’t their day. Mary O’Donovan and Noel Mac were having trouble with the high winds which didn’t help with their bonding but that’s what brings us back again and again..
Sunday morning Margaret Bowen motivated PJ Curtin and Tim Linehan to take the nett with a great score of 80 while John Ahern was on fire from the off and with support from Bart Millard and Mary O’Donovan was in the winners enclosure for the gross finishing in style on the second with a hole in one and Mary O’Donovan’s birdie saw them with eleven under. Pat O’Keeffe back after a months annual leave was in fine fettle along with good play a little luck is needed which wasn’t the case on this occasion. Paddy Dennehy was out fine and early practicing his putting which stood to him but it was an uphill struggle with the low handicap his team of former ESB Colleague, Noel and the former Fas Instructor, Frank had.
Sunday evening saw Gentleman John in the winners enclosure for the nett with Helen O’Callaghan while Rick O’Mahony was there for the gross with Paddy Dennehy.
Club Outing to Fermoy on Saturday with tee off at 11.00am. Meal in the Castle Hotel , Blarney at 7.00pm
