Wednesday night saw Gentleman John drawing Sheila O’Leary who brought out the best in him as they burned the course with a nett of 35. Par of the night was John’s misdirected shot on the 5th which saw him chip to within inches of the hole from the edge of the 6th green to tap in for a three.
The weekend saw a mixed bag of weather which was reflected in the turnout for the fourball competitions. Saturday the rain prior to the game saw a poor turnout but those that showed were established veterans and the draws were very well balanced. Eileen Murphy was a little distracted after partying into the small hours on Friday Night -Saturday Morning celebrating a big Birthday and especially when Billy Fitton led the Lakewood Choir in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” prior to the tee-off. Gentleman John was on a roll with another win, taking the nett with 39 partnered by Noel Mac while younger sibling PJ was the gross winner with John Dineen with a very good 8 under.
Sunday morning there was a large turnout which saw Dan Shine and Margaret Bowen taking the nett with 37 with Paddy Dennehy and Billy Fitton taking gross on 9 under beating John Ahern and John Dineen on the back nine. J P Murphy’s hole in one ensured second nett with Mary Murphy depriving Gentleman John and Josie Twomey of a place on the podium and putting a stop to Gentleman John’s three in a row. Sunday evening JP was like a man possessed, he was in superb form pitching, chipping and putting from all angles and with the help of Noel Mac took the nett while Mick O’Leary with 10 under took the gross with Mary O’Donovan.
Monday the numbers worked out nicely for a three ball which saw Bart Millard, Gretchen Ahern and Paddy Dennehy taking the nett while Pat Conway motivated and led by example Noel Mac and PJ Curtin to win the gross.
PJ and Margaret Bowen finished off the weekend in style taking the nett with 37 while JP Murphy and John Dineen took the gross.
Normal Fourball next weekend. Club outing on Saturday 17th to Fermoy.
