The Presidents Prize is one on the most prestigious competitions that the Club runs and this year it was fitting that Dave Linehan, Club President was surprised with a cake to recognise his recent Birthday Celebration having attained the magic milestone of 80 years young. David presented a magnificent piece of Waterford Crystal and Paddy Dennehy was the recipient with a magnificent score of 16 up. This is Paddy’s second year winning the Presidents Prize and has set out his intention for three in a row. There was a fine turnout with over a hundred entries. The course was in magnificent condition, the sun was shining, Betty had the kettle going non-stop and the playing was hard going, what more could one want. The Ladies saw Gretchen Ahern taking the 1st Nett, Pat Conway won Gross while Eileen Murphy and Val O’Leary took 2nd and 3rd Nett respectively. Alan Kelly was the Overall Gross winner with 9 Gross while Pat Moore took the Gents Nett with 15 up, Bart Millard took the Gents Gross with 5 while John Curtin and Rick O’Mahony took the 2nd and 3rd Nett with 8 up respectively.
Sunday night Betty White, Michael Healy and Pat Moore took the Nett in the Three Ball Competition while Gretchen Ahern, Pat O’Keeffe and Billy Fitton took the Gross. Billy and Pat were observed conserving their energy while Gretchen was seen searching for her ball that went slightly astray on the eleventh green. Betty White is very proactive in her role as Lady Captain having completed a full revamp of the Ladies dressing room. Work will commence shortly to finalise getting the course ready for the upcoming Lakewood Open set for the start of July. The draw sheet is in place for the Handicap Matchplay which commences shortly. Course open to Green Fees and normal fourballs next week.
