Dave Linehan was frequently seen on the course over the weekend overseeing his Annual President Prize Competition, the first of the prestigious events organised by the Club.. A regular Churchgoer he has great sway with the Man above which was evident with the beautiful sunshine that he arranged for the weekend. The odd shower but that was only to cool down those that were burning up the course. This was a very successful competition with close to forty members participating. Some good scoring and some not so good but with the going tough on the championship course and bogey the game of choice, it was a contest where full concentration is a requirement to succeed.
Pat Conway took third nett for the ladies beaten on the back nine by Sheila O’Leary, who was back in the winners enclosure after a long break, for 2nd Nett with Gretchen Ahern taking the gross with 3 up but Valerie O’Leary with a magnificent score of 13 up took the ladies overall nett.
The gents saw Noel McCarthy pushed out o third nett by Pat Moore on the back nine, both on 10up , Noel’s chip on the 18th costing him a plus while Alan Kelly took the 2nd gross with 9 up and Frank Riordan went home with a voucher for Siobhan winning 1st Nett with 12 up after scoring 17 and losing 5. Rick O’Mahony put up a brave battle but had to settle for overall gross with 10up while the 2018 winner of the Presidents Prize is Paddy Dennehy with a remarkable score of 15 up. Paddy also scored a hole in one on the 15th green which is the dedicated hole for the hole in one competition for May but overlooked putting his name down on the competition sheet.
Mrs Curtin’s boys were back with Tim Linehan on Sunday night in a 3 ball scramble to take the nett with 34 while JP Murphy and Pat O’Keeffe helped Billy Fitton into the winners enclosure with 11 under to take the gross.
