Wednesday saw Frank Riordan, Mick Lehane and Noel McCarthy taking the nett in a 3 ball scramble with 36 nett. Saturday Mick Lehane and Mary Donovan took the nett with an impressive 53 points to beat PJ Curtin and JP Murphy on the back nine but JP and PJ did enough to ensure the gross with 9 under at 45 points. JP said that he was forced to chip in on a few occasions as he didn’t trust PJ with the short putts. Val O’Leary was in great form anchoring Josie Twomey and Pat Moore taking second nett with Josie on 50 points, Val shooting 7 birdies netting 48 points. Sunday saw the Inaugural of the new Remembrance Competition in memory of former members who have moved on to the club in the clouds. The competition was very successful with 45 members taking part which saw PJ Curtin leading his Angels, Margaret Bowen and Mary O’Donovan into the winners enclosure with 83 nett while the boys club of Mick O’Leary, Billy Fitton and JP Murphy took the gross with 99. Pat Conway took the second nett with the upcoming Senior Player Dan Shine and Josie Twomey with 85 nett on the Championship Course.
Monday morning the scoring was very high which saw PJ back for a hat trick playing superb pitch and putt taking the nett with John O’Sullivan scoring 54 points and 11 under and also taking the gross with John Dineen with 9 under and 45 points with PJ shooting 7 birdies. Dan Shine and JP Murphy took 2 nett with 53 points and 8 under. Dan played very solid throughout but JP lent a hand when he was needed while at other time he was like a Trekkie venturing into parts unknown.
Dave Linehan’s Presidents Prize is starting on Thursday and PJ is the hot favourite with the course bookies however there are a number of dark horses ready to pounce including big brother John and Dan Shine is also in the running. Valerie O’Leary cant be ruled out either as she is playing superbly at present. The gross prize cant be predicted due to the high standard of late and is wide open to a number of the senior players. Monday evening saw Billy Fitton chaperoning Mick and Valerie O’Leary and running away with the nett in a three-ball in the weekend finale.
