Normal fourballs resumed this weekend and after the Frank Collins Competition the scoring was of a very high standard. Its amazing the difference a card in the hand makes its like Big Brother has the CCTV running non stop. John Dineen and John O’Sullivan were paired on the Wednesday and also on the Saturday and performed well on both occasions to take the gross. John O’Sullivan was missing on Sunday Morning but PJ Curtin was a worthy replacement ensuring John had a full house for the weekend putting him back in the winners enclosure for the gross for the third consecutive time. Paddy Dennehy was in good form and made use of the revamped pitching wedge, new grip fitted and a ball extractor on the putter to cut down on the exertion removing the ball from the hole taking the Nett on Wed with Mick Lehane while Mary O’Donovan and Sheila O’Leary took the Nett on Saturday with a score that had the men catching flies with their mouths open. Sheila was back in form Sunday Morning and took the Nett with John Ahern in conditions more suited to the winter. Sunday evening Pat Moore was in winning form after his trip to Kerry and took the Gross with Gretchen Ahern while William Fitton and Mary O’Donovan were comfortable taking the Nett.
The St Mary’s competition is starting on Thursday 24th with the full proceeds going to this worthy cause. Rene and the late Jim O’Shea have championed this competition with over 20 years and its still going strong. The Wed fourball and the weekend fourballs are all part of the competition so please support it. The outing is scheduled for Saturday 2nd to Newmarket, Lunch and Dinner and 3 rounds of Pitch and Putt what more could you ask for only for the Sun to shine and the Rain to go on Holidays.
The course is open to green fees for those that want a competitive challenge.
