Last week was a Historic occasion with the arrival of President Joe Biden and his non stop tour of the North and West of the Country which created fierce excitement and a sense of wellbeing in the population. The same could be said of Lakewood with the first of the major competitions taking place. Unfortunately our Club President was indisposed and unable to make it to the event and our best wishes are extended to John and wishing him a speedy recovery and hopefully he will be back in action soon. The competition was fairly stiff with only one shot between the overall winner in the Gents and 4 in the Ladies. The conditions were tough with the greens in recovery after the wet winter and the removal of the winter rules. Michael Ryan was the overall gents winner with a score of 102 which goes to show that the hours of practice that Michael put in was well worth it. Valerie O’Leary was the Ladies Champion with an excellent score of 107 while Pat Conway was runner up with 111 over, Congratulation Michael and Valerie, well done and to all the winners and all who took part. Bart Millard took the 0-6  in the Gents with 103 while Noel Mac was the 7-14 winner. with 107

Saturday Paddy Dennehy was in great form and took the nett with John Dineen on 41 beating Noel Mac and Michael Ryan on the back nine while Paddy also featured with Alan Kelly for the gross with 6 under. Sunday evening’s fourball saw Eileen Murphy and Deirdre O’Sullivan taking the nett with 39 while Val O’Leary made sure that Frank Riordan got a good return on his entry fee.

Normal Fourballs next weekend, New Members are most welcome and the course is open to players who pay green fees.
