Last Wednesday saw the return of the Inniscarra Club annual visit to Lakewood which has been on hold for the past few years due to the pandemic and hopefully will be the first of many in the years to come. A large turnout with the bulk of the tee boxes taken up and a shotgun start in place. While the course is in magnificent condition considering the dry spell and Mick O’Leary nursing the greens feeding and watering on a daily basis it was very hard going. The teams were divided equally with a Lakewood and Inniscarra pairing and a large number of prizes on offer. While everyone enjoyed the craic there were some groans and mutterings over missed putts, bad chips and not so straight pitching but in the end there are always those that take it in their stride and get a good result. With a score of 43.5 Eileen Murphy and Ita O’Connell took 4th Nett. Bart Millard and Noreen Cosgrove were there for 3rd Gross with one under while Billy Fitton praising the magnificent scoring of his playing partner Ann Murphy took the 3rd nett, Tim Murphy was in superb pitch form and along with Tim Cremin took the 2nd Gross beaten on the back nine, the little boob on the 9th cost them. Deirdre O’Sullivan, Lakewood Lady Captain who organised the afters in the clubhouse took 2nd nett with Bev Fallon with a nett of 42 beaten on the back nine. John Ahern and Liz Healy made a few errors at the start but made up for them with 4 under on the back nine to finish 2 under and take the overall gross. The best of the night went to the two Sheila’s, Sheila O’Leary from Lakewood and Sheila Holland from Inniscarra with a 42 nett took the overall nett. Billy and Bart had a tough job sorting the cards while John Curtin arranged the little brown envelopes. A good time was had by all with the Lakewood lads led by Frank Riordan and Kevin Crowley providing the home baked cakes on offer while others like Billy Fitton left it to the professionals and had them packaged and wrapped. Seriously fair play to the Lakewood Ladies co-ordinated by Deirdre put on a fabulous spread which was devoured fairly lively while Frank was in the f
