Captain’s Prize 2022

It was all go last week in Lakewood with Both the Ladies and Gents Captains Prize Competition in full swing.  With over two hundred cards played and with the Sponsorship from Hammond Lane Metal Company Ltd, which was arranged by the Club Stalwart, Bart Millard and with the glorious weather that we experienced it was a very successful competition. The course was in spectacular condition thanks to the tender and loving care that it received from the course experts and with the hard playing and a lot of high scoring cards returned it was very challenging. But as always there are winners who take the conditions in their stride and deliver. For the ladies Valerie O’Leary just back from her Mediterranean Cruise, tanned and fresh it was a walk in the park and with a score of 92 Nett took the Overall Nett and received a beautiful gold chain from the Lady Captain Deirdre O’Sullivan. On the Gents side a very worthy winner emerged and the daily practice for the past few months paid off as Alan Kenneally was the Overall Nett Winner with a magnificent score of 9 under and a nett of 83 received a Voucher for Desmond Clothing, Sponsors of a new set of Flags for the course. Alan was seen on the course so many times people were wondering if he was living in the clubhouse. One of his playing partners, Niall Enright was the Gross winner with 8 under, Kevin Crowley took second nett with 89 and was seen coaching his wife Trish on a number of days. John Healy spent Friday on the Course and took second gross with 5 under while Tim Linehan was the winner of the 3rd Nett. Over on the Ladies side, Gretchen Ahern took the overall gross with 113. Pat Conway was the winner of 2nd nett with 94, the six on the ninth killed her card while Betty White was the winner of the second gross; Helen O’Callaghan took the 3rd nett with 96. The presentation was well attended and the Ladies under the supervision of the Lady Captain put on a lovely spread.
