Lakewood May Weekend Results 2022

A promising start to the weekend with clear sunny skies and a nice turnout on Saturday saw some very interesting combinations take to the fairways. Mary O’Donovan and Betty White took the honours with some great play, shooting 3 under to nett at 39 and take the overall. Ann O’Herlihy and P J Curtin were inspired by Betty and Mary and took second nett with 40.5. Sheila O’Leary was in superb form and partnered by Pat Moore took the gross with 4 under. A little bird mentioned in confidence that Sheila who now has a lot more time on her hands has created her own practice green and this was evident on Saturday when she was hitting the putts home with ease. Sunday morning with an even number it was decided to play a Scotch Foursome which saw PJ Curtin partnered with Ann O’Herlihy for the second day running and the practice showed when they took the nett with a score of 44. Frank Riordan was doing a bit of sightseeing on the Saturday but was more focused on the Sunday morning and helped the Gents Captain, Pat O’Keeffe onto the Winners Podium to bag the gross on the back nine while Paddy Dennehy and Dermot Murphy took the second nett with 47. Sunday evening Pat O’Keeffe, Valerie O’Leary and Rick O’Mahony were the nett winners with a small turnout. Monday morning Catherine O’Keeffe partnering Margaret Burke put their handicaps on maximum and were comfortable winners with 48 points with Sheila O’Leary and John Dineen on 3 under, taking second nett with 47points. Betty White was back in form after a long rest on the Sunday and dovetailed well with Rick O’Mahony to take the gross with 4 under. PJ had us enthralled with his tale of filling the car via the back seat on some of the foreign makes. Normal Fourballs next weekend however John Curtin invites all Lakewood Members to participate in his upcoming Presidents Prize starting on the 12th. Ballincollig Credit Union have very generously provided Sponsorship for the Gross and Graded Prizes. The course is open to Green Fees and New Members are most welcome.
