Nice sharp weekend with a frosty bite which made sure that there was no hanging around admiring pitches, chips and putts. Saturday saw PJ Curtin in top flight playing alongside Paddy Dennehy and Deirdre O’Sullivan take the overall with a superb score of 80 nett with 8 under. The cold air saw a number of players under pressure to keep the four off the card. Valerie O’Leary, Pat Conway and Eileen Murphy were in shooting form taking the gross with four under. Sunday morning Valerie and Eileen were drawn together again and took the gross shooting 6 under. Valerie made sure that her balls got a good wash and dry prior to the fourball after the splendid workout on Saturday and it paid off as they were fine and fresh for the event while the rest of us were struggling to get the distance. Frank Riordan and Alan Kenneally dovetailed well and with 9 under took the overall nett with a magnificent score of 34.. Alison Harvey reminded us on Sunday Morning how good she is with a demonstration of her skills shooting 4 under on the back nine and taking second nett with Mary O’Donovan while Betty White was in great form and after her hole in one on Saturday put in a super performance to take the second gross with Noel McCarthy with 5 under. Normal fourballs next week and again it’s the numbers that determine the game that is played. Membership is now due and new Members are most welcome. Application Forms are available in the Clubhouse.
