Lakewood Christmas Competition Week 3

Week three of the Christmas Competition was a mixed bag of weather, On Saturday there was a nice wind blowing which played havoc with some of the pitching as it was changing direction intermittently. There was a low turnout but Sunday Morning saw a big improvement in both the weather and the numbers and in the afternoon another generous group showed up to try their luck and pit their skills against the course which allowed for a second nett. The Competition was Bogey, everyone’s favourite including yours truly which saw some high scoring with a number of 11 up and 4 twelve up but P J Curtin was the one to enter the Winners Enclosure for the first time since the competition started but it won’t be the last now that he has found the way. Along with Pat Moore who is on his third win in three weeks they took the overall nett with 12 up, and nine under of which seven were on the back nine. Valerie O’Leary and Rick O’Mahony also had 12 but took the gross with 9 under. This is also Rick’s first win in the competition while Valerie already has one in the bag. Second nett went to Eileen Murphy and Deirdre O’Sullivan with another 12 under beating Catherine O’Keeffe and Valerie O’Leary on the back nine, Valerie was anchoring Catherine and Rick on the Sunday Morning, Eileen and Deirdre had 6 on the back nine to Valerie and Catherine’s 5.  Newcomer Kevin Crowley played on Sunday afternoon and if his standard of play is anything to go by, we will be seeing a lot of him in the Winners enclosure in the  near future. The Competition continues next weekend and Rumour has it that Gentleman John is gearing up for a win.
