The first week of the Christmas Competition saw a fine turnout with close to 80 cards played over the weekend, which considering the mixed weather was excellent and allowed for a third nett to be paid out. Some great shooting, some what if and for those in the winners enclosure a great start to the Christmas Shopping. The top nett went to Catherine O’Keeffe who was blessed with John Dineen who won on the back nine from Frank Riordan and Pat Moore and also pipping Noel Byrne and Dermot Murphy. However Frank and Pat took the second nett while Noel and Dermot took third. John was there also with Val O’Leary for the gross with the best score of 7 under while he also took the second gross with Paddy Dennehy on 6 under. John had a magnificent weekend which shows that all the practice throughout the year paid off. Pat Moore and Frank Riordan had two attempts as they were drawn on Sunday Morning but the double bogey on the sixth killed the card. Gentleman John was there or thereabouts but was out by half a shot on a few occassions which was down to the stupid fours on the card. He had a great game on Monday evening with Tim Linehan but the fifth and first weren’t particularly kind to them. Eileen Murphy was complaining about the heat while |Bart Millard was seen practicing after the Sunday Morning fourball. Mick O’Leary was still in Golf Mode having had a very successful round on Saturday in Lee Valley. The options with regards to the removal of the pins is making a big difference and the winter rules helps to balance the scoring. Next weekend the competition is Stableford which suits the high handicappers. Club open to Membership for 2022. The AGM is scheduled for Monday 8th November in the Lakewood Bar at 8 pm and all Members are invited to attend.
