Last Saturday the weather was a real washout but some poor souls, some would call Braveheart’s while others would have another name for them braved the elements and got a good soaking for their efforts including yours truly. However for one pair, Paddy Dennehy and Billy Fitton it was superb shooting coming in with 11 under to nett at 36 and took home the winnings which covered the cost of running the tumble dryer. Sunday morning threatened a repeat of Saturday but the Sun peeked out and allowed us to get a round in. Valerie O’Leary and Deirdre O’Sullivan were the nett winners with a 37 nett while Darren O’Leary and Frank Riordan took the gross with 5 under. There were a lot of 4 unders with some enlightened moments that could have proved different but that’s the way it goes and brings us back for more punishment. Sunday evening saw the combination of John Ahern, Betty White and Pat Moore taking the nett with a score of 9 under to nett at 82 with some classy play from all three taking turns to dovetail and keep the dreaded bogies off the card. Valerie O’Leary, John Dineen and Dermot Murphy were the gross winners with 6 under showing consistent scoring in both halves. The President’s Prize is starting on Thursday and President John Curtin invites all members to participate. The competition is stroke which gives the high handicappers an advantage but it’s all to play for.. Presentation will commence after the Sunday Evening Fourball at the earlier time of 18.30.Course closed to Green Fees on Saturday and Sunday. Good Luck to Ann, Rick and Darren in the upcoming Nationals.
