The weekend saw a large turnout on both Saturday and Sunday morning with the resumption of the Club Competitions. It’s strange not playing with the flags in at present but the Grounds Committee is looking into different alternatives to provide the best play possible. The pins out at present seems to be the the safest option as there is no repetitive handling of the flags while the pins in are inclined to interfere with the flight of the ball.
However all said Catherine O’Keeffe was in her element on Saturday taking the nett with Rick O’Mahony who was from all accounts was in fine fettle sinking four birdies and with Catherine’s two ended 6 under and 39 nett which won the overall nett. Val O’Leary and Sheila O’Leary took second nett with 43 and 3 under while John Dineen and John Ahern took the gross with 7 under, John Ahern having a superb round scoring 5 birdies with 4 of them on the back nine. Some New Members joined in on the fourball and from all accounts enjoyed the experience.
Sunday morning saw Rick O’Mahony back in the winners enclosure with Frank Riordan and Pat Moore taking the gross with 5 under Franks 2 birdies on the twelfth and seventeenth providing the better card on the back nine. Val O’Leary motivated Tim Linehan and P J Curtin to take the nett with a very respectable score of 84 nett which was good enough to take them in the prizewinners. PJ has been seen regularly on the course getting in the practice which showed on the Sunday. Betty White and Pat Moore have set their sights on the monthly hole in one competition with both scoring a hole in one over the weekend
A number of new members joined the Club over the past few months so hopefully they will integrate themselves into the competitive spirit and more so in the forthcoming major competitions namely he President and Captains Prizes which are the highlights of the Clubs Calendar.
Course Open to Green Fees with all the Covid requirements including social distancing in place and of course New Members are always welcome
