An interesting weekend, while a lot of places were shut down due to weather and the Covid-19 Lakewood was open, notwithstanding the precautions put in place. The Lady Captain sterilised the clubhouse with Boiling Water and Dettol, it brought back memories of the old North Infirmary when the Nuns with the white habits and the big hats were in charge. The sanitizers inside the door and the introduction of new etiquette will allow us to enjoy the fresh air, the games and hopefully this virus will disappear as fast as it came. Saturday saw Frank Riordan, Eileen Murphy and John Dineen the winners of the threeball competition with 86.3 Nett. Small Crowds which allows for the guidelines on social distancing with John Dineen manning the gate to allow only the first hundred in, this may take a few weeks to implement with the average number in the mid teens at present but John said he wouldn’t mind doing his bit. Sunday Morning another small group partly due to the cold weather but the scoring was good with Paddy Dennehy and Eileen Murphy taking the nett with 40.5 while Pat Moore and John Dineen took the gross with six under. To finish off the weekend Eileen Murphy had a hat trick this time taking the gross with Bart Millard while Paddy Dennehy completed a double with John Dineen to take the nett. Not sure what will happen over the coming weeks but precautions are in place to manage the course and the competitions taking the recommended guidelines on board. While this is a non contact sport and social distancing is possible stringer controls may be put in place which may impact on weekly events.. Cards on Tuesday Nights suspended until the 6th April at which time a review will be undertaken
