Wednesday saw a nice showing for the afternoon fourball which saw Mary O’Donovan and Betty White taking the nett while Ted Canty and John Ahern were the gross winners.
between Storm Ciara and Storm Denis the social aspect in Lakewood is neither here nor there with some members looking at hail rain and snow and others at blue skies depending on the location. Saturday was a definite no/ no with John Ahern and John Dineen both giving it a skip. However Sunday morning saw a good showing, as members were feeling the withdrawal symptoms and the sun shone in the sky to further entice. with the even numbers the decision to have a threeball just in case proved the best option until the first hole was played when the skies opened and hailstone gave all a good pelting, its true what they say, man makes plans and god has a laugh. For Catherine O’Keeffe it wasn’t funny as she was paired with Mary O’Donovan and Pat Moore who proceeded to show her to make very hard work of the course. Catherine was trying hard to convince her team that it was great to be out in the fresh air and it would be worth it while reminiscing about the lovely warm comfortable bed that she left behind. Gentleman John checked the cards and while he was leaning towards brother Pat for the nett it was not to be as Margaret Bowen galvanised her team and pushed John Dineen and Frank Riordan to victory, John Dineen was very disappointed that he didn’t get a hole in one as he was convinced he was up for it’ Billy and the dream team of PJ and Tim were thwarted by John Ahern and Ted Canty assisted by the Senior player Dan Shine who took the gross but lost his ball in the process. Bart Millard was giving out to himself that he didn’t perform better while his team-mates Paddy and Gentleman John were discussing the costs of dental surgery in Latvia
Membership, is still open and members that haven’t paid up yet are advised to pay by the end of the month deadline, new members are most welcome.
Normal fourball , hopefully next week with the new time of 3pm for the afternoon game.
