Lakewood this week was like a touch of Paradise , with the sunny weather , the green foliage, blue skies and the good turnouts at all four of the fourballs. Wed saw some very tight scoring between first nett, gross and second nett but the combination of Ted Canty , John Ahern and Mary O’Donovan were the winners with 81.3 beating Frank Riordan, George Bolton and Josie Twomey on the back three while Paddy Dennehy, Betty White and John Curtin took the gross and with a nett of 81.5 it was all down to the putting. Saturday Gentleman John was very fortunate to draw Helen O’Callaghan and took the nett with 38.5 while Val O’Leary and Alan Kelly took the gross leaving second nett to Frank Riordan and Betty White. Mary O’Donovan and Margaret Bowen were having a cracking round up to the fifth where it all fell apart and for the next 4 holes took bogeys and double bogies. Mary was thinking about writing a book with the title Little Aged Women  as they were firing in some great pars and two magnificent birdies but the pressure was too much and they faded. Sunday morning with the sun shining and temperatures at 9 degrees it was a great morning for a three ball scramble with some great shooting but Billy Fitton and his Angels, Mary and Margaret back together again took the nett with eight under and a nett of 22 while Betty White took charge of P J Curtin and John Dineen and were the gross winners with 11 under beating JP Murphy, Frank and Sheila O’Leary on the back nine.Sunday Afternoon it was the turn of the Octogenarians, Gentleman John proudly announced to all and sundry as he and Noel Mac in the company of the much younger Frank Riordan literally danced into the winners enclosure taking the nett with 78.5 while Pat Moore was blessed with the senior pairing of Mick O’Leary and Rick O’Mahony to win the gross with 7 under. Just as the course was locked up the heavens opened and the greens were watered for next Wednesday’s fourball where good weather is again forecasted. Membership in mow due and new Members are most welcome, forms available online or from the clubhouse. Normal Fourballs next weekend.RegardsPat
