Wk 4 Christmas Competition 2019: 24-11-19

The Gods were good to us over the weekend, while the rest of the Country were experiencing showery, windy and cold weather , play im Lakewood was very pleasant with mild dry conditions.. As PJ said its perfect conditions for a score and with the course in excellent condition this was the case for Saturday yours truly had the pleasure of watching Val O’Leary and Rick O’Mahony getting off to a dream start with Val getting a birdie on the 16th and Rick with a hole in one on the 17th followed by another birdie on the 18th leaving them 4 under on the back three, however both of them left opportunities go a begging  missing a number of putts but still finishing a very respectable eight under and did enough to take the gross on the back nine from Noel Mac and Bart Millard. Billy Fitton was in superb form on Saturday and egged on by his playing partner  Mick Healy had a magnificent score of 38 nett which took the overall nett in comfort. Rumour has it that Billy is considering a career change as he was heard discussing the fine art of massage to relieve stress and tension but those aliments are alien to Billy so this career path may not be for him, PJ was a busy beaver on Monday when he hosted the over 55’s, preparing the course and marshalling the table but with with help from big brother John, JP Murphy and Sheila O’Leary managed very well ensuring that the visitors enjoyed the Lakewood experience. Some great feedback and compliments were extended to the Greenkeeper, Mick O’;Leary on the condition of the greens and the overall excellence of the course which is down to former Captain  Pat Twomey and the rest of the Grounds Committee.. The afternoon fourball is moving to the new time of 14.30 until early February even though Pat Moore was seen lighting up the course with his own LED Christmas Tree Hat.Dave Linehan paid his weekly visit on Sunday Morning and was reminiscing  about his expertise with the Tango. Josie offered to give a demonstration with him but there was no music as Noel Mac had gone home. Next weeks fourball is Stableford so all the high handicappers will have an opportunity to make use of their shots
