The Club AGM was held on Thursday last with some new faces elected and some of the old guard staying in situ. Dave Linehan’s term of office sadly came to an end but John Curtin was elected as a worthy replacement. Best wishes to Gentleman John for his forthcoming term of office and we have no doubt but he will put his mark on the position. Dave paid a lovely tribute to all and with particular emphasis on the Grounds Staff and Ladies Committee who are the backbone of the club. Frank, Gretchen, Pat, Billy and Paddy all retained their positions with Pat Moore also elected as Gents Captain and Josie Twomey as Ladies Captain. Week 3 of the Christmas Competitions saw the Club Chairman, Frank Riordan and newly elected Club Captain, were together on the Saturday bringing in a mighty score of 14 up with 7 under which included Pat Moore’s hole in one on the 15th to take the nett. Sunday there was some mighty banter with Gentleman John hitting the straights for the kick off with seconds to spare, like Red Rum out of the traps, to get his name down before the door closed and with PJ on the table there was no guarantee of a slot. Bart Millard and Sheila O’Leary did some great scoring on the back nine Sunday morning with 5 under but the front nine left a lot to be desired totalling six while John Dineen and Darren O’Leary did the business for gross on Sunday Morning having had a practice run on the Saturday. To show that he is totally impartial John Dineen came in with 9 under on Sunday afternoon with Mick O’Leary but Mick’s miss on the 18th was the difference between a win and a close second. No doubt Mick will be there or thereabouts next weekend. Pat Moore was modelling his new Christmas hat and demonstrating the lighting effect in case he gets lost in the dark.Pat Conway was back after her dose of the flu and was in good form and drew her card partner Catherine O’Keeffe but it wasn’t their day. JP Mutrphy didn’t have time to play over the weekend as he was busy getting ready for the over 55’s arrival on Monday. Rumour has it that he was up till the early hours of Sunday morning baking and that Gentleman John was busy in the kitchen cooking the ham for the sandwiches.As we are entering week 4 and the handicaps are being cut its all to play for with Strokeplay on the agenda and no doubt there will be a big demand for the high handicappers.With the darkness coming in earlier the afternoon fourballs will be moving to the earlier time of 2.30 pm shortly
