Wednesday saw the Lakewood Response Unit springing into action under the skilled leadership of John Ahern when Paddy Dennehy damaged his calf muscle coming off the 5th Green and was unable to self propel himself to the Club House. In an interview with George Bolton he said that the team were reminiscent of a scene from Dads Army with Gentleman John , himself and Trapper John Ahern to the fore. Trapper John set up the high powered Kubota and connected up the Putt Mobile with seating arrangements for the Patient , Paddy, and the Minder, Gentleman and a prop for the damaged leg. John  himself was in the drivers seat  and with George (Undertaker) Bolton in the lead, it was all speed to the Doctors Surgery where Paddy was given the once over and instructions to rest for a few weeks, best wishes Paddy hope you have a speedy recovery and looking forward to your return. John Ahern resumed play and went on to take the nett with George Bolton while Frank Riordan and Mary O’Donovan were the gross winners. Saturday a nice crowd showed up which saw PJ Curtin taking the nett with Josie Twomey scoring 4 under and 39 nett while Rick O’Mahony took the gross with John Dineen shooting a very respectable 8 under. Catherine O’Keeffe and Margaret Bowen were there for 2nd nett with 40 nett beating Frank and Val O’Leary by half a shot. Rumour has it that the competition between both pairings  PJ and Josie on one team and Catherine wand Margaret on the other was so intense that you could hear a pin drop with the silence. Pat Moore was seen back to his old habits missing putts including a 14 inch putt on the third but it may be a different story next week with the Hamper Competition kicking off the Christmas Programme. Sunday Morning PJ Curtin and Pat Conway were the nett winners while Billy Fitton and Bart Millard took the gross. PJ was in great form over the weekend as he was back in the afternoon helping big brother John onto the winners podium with 52 points while John Dineen and Gretchen Ahern were the gross winners, Next weekend sees the start of the Christmas Competitions commencing with the Hampers.
