Wednesday night Darren O’Leary was the anchor in a three ball which saw him take both nett and gross partnering his Father, Mick, winning the nett by half a shot with 8 under and taking the gross with 4 under with Frank Riordan. Sheila O’Leary was in great form and took second nett with Mary O’Donovan. Thankfully the Weather Forecasters got the forecast wrong over the weekend which allowed for normal fourballs on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday there was a mighty contingent from Kilworth who graced Lakewood with their annual outing. It was a pleasure to see the large turnout availing of the facilities especially with the course in pristine condition. A little bird said that there was a great buzz when the Kilworth Group adjourned to the Kilumney Inn for some food and ale after their second attack on the course. Saturday Catherine O’Keeffe and John Ahern fought off all the competition to take the nett while PJ Curtin and Val O’Leary took the gross. PJ and Val were drawn again on Sunday morning and repeated their performance and also treated Frank to a share of the podium with 6 under beating Mick O’Leary, John Ahern and Billy Fitton on the back three. Gentleman John was in good company with the senior pairing of Dan Shine and Mary O’Donovan and took the nett with 85. JP Murphy and Pat Moore left Bart Millard down badly by not capitalising on Bart’s performance. Pat Moore put it down to JP’s excitement when Josie Twomey drew out his name for the hole in one for the August Competition along with Catherine O’Keeffe and JP used up all his reserve energy demonstrating his gratitude to Josie. Bon Voyage to the Lady Captain  Betty White who is heading for the warmer climate for a short break which was badly needed after a very successful year. rumour has it that she left a bucket list with the Treasurer that she wants completed before the handover at the AGM in November.Sunday evening Gentleman John and Helen O’Callaghan took the nett with 40 while Mick O’Leary  and Pat O’Keeffe were the gross winners  beating Billy Fitton and John Dineen on the back nine.  Normal fourballs continue for the coming weeks allowing for some practice before the Christmas Competitions which commences in October. The designated hole for the hole in one competition is number 7 which is reasonably achievable to take the rollover voucher which is up for grabs
