Wednesday night Frank Riordan and Mary Donovan had the best card with a number of 41.5 netts handed in, theirs was the winner on the back 6 and Pat Conway was working the calculator like a Returning Officer in the Elections working out the fractions to determine the winner, Ted Canty and Billy Fitton also on 41.5 but with a gross of 7 under took the gross. Eileen Murphy took the pedal off the back burner missing out on a number of occasions of late was seen putting in the extra practice along with Sheila O’Leary, rumour has it that they have their eye on the ladies prize in the upcoming Lakewood Open.
Saturday after a good mornings work on the course saw Pat Moore and Billy Fitton drawn together for the first time in over a year and both dovetailed well to take the gross with 6 under while Mary Donovan was back again this time with a different partner, the bould Paddy Dennehy substituting for Frank took the nett with 50 points.
Sunday morning and with the clouds threatening to spit on the course Billy Fitton fine and fresh from his Saturday Night Soiree was in magnificent form and with Betty White as his partner took the nett with a three shot gap, bringing in 52 points. Pat Moore and Mary Donovan in the same fourball were ahead by one on the fourteenth but Betty White’s superb pitch resulted in a hole in one which give her a five pointer and placed them in the lead by two, her birdie on the 15th and 18th and Billy’s 4 pointer on the 17th sealed the win. Eileen Murphy and PJ Curtin with 50 points had to go home empty handed while Bart Millard who was the anchor in a three ball with Margaret Bowen and JP Murphy took the gross with 5 under and both himself and JP went home with the winnings.
Sunday evening Tim and Mary Murphy were in the winners enclosure, Mary and Gretchen Ahern with 5 under netting at 41 took the nett while Tim took the gross with Rick O’Mahony with 6 under.
Normal fourballs next weekend with the Club Open starting on the week after with the over 55’s on the opening day.
