Wednesday night saw Josie Twomey motivating Billy Fitton to ensure that he escorted her into the winners enclosure with a very respectable 38 nett beating PJ & Sheila O’Leary on the back 6 while Pat Moore and Rick O’Mahony took the gross with 4 under. The course again is in pristine condition thanks to Pat Twomey and his team, Mick O’Leary, JP Murphy, Eugene, Gentleman John and everyone else that make a contribution. Frank and Paddy Dennehy were seen planting a new tree as a replacement to the one planted by John Coleman that was damaged last year in the big storm.
Saturday PJ got another chance to impress Shelia O’Leary and this time succeeded by winning the gross with 7 under and a nett of 38.5 but lost out on the nett due to the handicap difference as John Dineen was fortunate to draw Mick Healy whose magic putter flaked the ball into the hole time and time again.
Sunday morning a very large crowd showed up for the Remembrance Competition in memory of all the Members who have passed on. Frank Riordan, Betty White and John Ahern with 103 gross and 85 nett were this years nett winners while the Senior and Intermediate Strokeplay champions, Bart Millard and Tim Linehan respectively with Paddy Dennehy took the gross also with 103. With JP Murphy cutting the greens as Mick O’Leary is on a sun break rumoured to be a birthday pressie from Valerie and both Gentleman John and Pat Moore swishing the greens it was a tough course with the greens like sanded glass, fast, furious and totally unforgiving to make it very challenging Competition.
Sunday evening Pat Conway and Gretchen Ahern gelled very well resulting in them winning the nett with 4 under and 43 nett. Paddy Dennehy was seen fighting with his ball on the seventh after hitting the tree it came back and attacked him on the tee box and chased him onto the fairway. Once order was restored Paddy went on to take the gross with John Dineen beating Billy Fitton on the back nine.
Monday morning saw the dynamic duo of Bart Millard and Tim Linehan drawn together again and working together to take the nett with 49 points while John Ahern and John Dineen took the gross with 6 under. Pat Moore got another chance to make amends to Josie Twomey for the Saturday performance but had to settle for second nett after messing up the fifth with a disastrous five.
Monday night and the Dream Team of Gentleman John and Mick Healy combined to take the nett with more shots than Bonnie and Clyde while Gretchen Ahern took the gross with Pat O’Keeffe.
