Another week and thank god Martin King and his counterparts in the weather sections got it wrong. Winds and rain were forecast but sun and dry weather were the order of the day. Wednesdays three ball saw Frank Riordan blessed with the company of Mary O’Donovan and Gretchen Ahern who raised him to senior level putting in a sterling performance to take the nett,
Saturday saw one of the biggest turnouts so far this year which saw some incredible performances from Rick O’Mahony and Tim Linehan grossing eleven under to take the overall nett with 37 while Alan Kelly and Betty White took the gross with 10 under. However Margaret Bowen rose to the occasion partnering Josie Twomey and had a magnificent score of 39 nett to take second nett. Rumour has it that Josie was seen planning tactical manoeuvres on the course prior to the fourball under the pretence of coaching Margaret. Sunday morning JP Murphy was seen on the course at 6.30 swishing the greens in order to get them right for his son in law Alan. The fruit of his efforts resulted in him taking the nett with Frank Riordan on 52 points while Alan and John Dineen shot 9 to take the gross, Alan got a hole in one on the second and not to be outdone JP got one also. The Finale of the weekend saw the old reliables JP Murphy, Rick O’Mahony and Gretchen Ahern taking the nett with 8 under to nett at 86. Normal fourballs continue next weekend.
