Another good weekend and more so for the lucky ones that were in the winners enclosure as we move into the middle of Spring. Saturday saw a nice even crowd which gave an opportunity for three balls with two scores to count. Betty White, Mary O’Donovan and Pat Moore lead the field with 9 under to nett at 80 and took the nett comfortably. Gretchen Ahern, P J Curtin and John Dineen took the gross with eleven under. Betty was in superb form, after a slow start once she settled into a rhythm there was no stopping her, Mary O’Donovan and Pat Moore provided the necessary backup and the small glitch on the seventeenth didn’t make a difference to the final result. Gentleman John was back in action, considering the time of year it was like the resurrection of Lazarus, for a man that having trouble with his breathing he was like the long distance runner full of energy and staying power. Noel Mac, Billy Fitton and Val O’Leary on paper were the team to beat but as Noel said it didn’t happen on the day.JP is still tied up at home with the flu but like Arnie Schwarzenegger will be next week.
Sunday morning Pat Moore and Bart Millard has a brilliant score with 51 points to take the nett, Pat opened the play on the 6th with a birdie and a four pointer which set the pace for the remainder of the round as Gretchen Ahern and Tim Linehan rose to the occasion and had a great score on the back nine but fell away on the front. Bart was complaining about his game but finished perfectly with a Birdie on four and a hole in one on five for five points finishing in style with nine under. Pat O’Keeffe anchored PJ Curtin and took the gross with six under.
Eileen Murphy picked the right partner for herself and ensured she was in the winning fourball where girl-power was the order of the afternoon as she took the gross with Mary O’Donovan while Pat Conway and Gretchen Ahern went home with the nett pipping Paddy Dennehy and Gentleman John by half a shot.
Best wishes to Catherine O’Keeffe on a speedy recovery, her presence is missed on the course it’s so quiet that the birds can be heard chirping.
Normal fourballs next weekend.
