After the miserable week of snow, ice, sleet, rain and cold it was great to get out on Saturday and hit the small ball around the course. What was even better is the condition of the course which is in great shape thanks to the team looking after the fairways and greens. Frank Riordan is the man this week with a double win on Saturday, partnering Gentleman John and on Sunday morning with the ever dependable Sheila O’Leary. Frank and John netted 40 on Saturday and again on Sunday with another 40 with Sheila replacing John, beating Mick O’Leary and Mary O’Donovan on the back nine but Mick and Mary had a gross of 6 which was good enough to take them into the winners enclosure. Rick O’Mahony was on fire on Saturday and took the gross with Paddy Dennehy with 7 under. Rumour has it that Frank is thinking of investing his winnings and is looking online for a Sat Nav to cut down on his fuel bill for the course. JP started well on Sunday morning but fell away on the home stretch with a couple of fours and some near misses while Pat Moore and Noel Mac started with a negative and never got into the game. Pat Conway on paper had two chances but JP fell at the first hurdle on Sat and PJ still on a high after shooting 17 in a Scramble in Bishopstown couldn’t get his rhythm going. Michael Healy was on the course on Saturday making a return testing out the leg and it was reported that his putting is still as good as it was, watch this space. JP was seen on Saturday having a good nose at Noel’s new car and is believed to be seriously considering investing. Billy Fitton popped in on Sunday afternoon taking time out from his busy schedule and helped Gentleman John to do the business taking the Nett. Unfortunately the crowd was small but he still had enough to cover the expenses and the coffee afterwards in the Members Bar.
