Whether its the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019 to some it makes no difference and in particular John Dineen who saw out the year with a win on New Years Eve taking the gross with Rick O’Mahony and on New Years Day he was back again with Paddy Dennehy for the nett. Billy Fitton and Gretchen Ahern were nett winners on New Years Eve while Newcomer Alan Kelly won the gross with Noel McCarthy.
Saturday a great turnout for the Captains Day with both Captains hosting a marvellous lunch. Betty White assisted by her daughter Linda and the Ladies Committee laid out a magnificent spread fit for royalty including Pat Twomey’s home cooked Spiced Beef. Some light refreshment and for the warm of heart something stronger. Pat Moore and Frank Riordan took the nett while Darren O’Leary and Rick O’Mahony won the gross. Mick O’Leary and Eileen Murphy took second Gross and Billy Fitton won the second nett with Miriam Casey. Best back nine went to Margaret Bowen and Dan Shine. Betty White while on her visit to Florida was lamenting about her putting which led to her Grandson taking matters into his own hands and sorting her out which was evidenced on Saturday with her long birdie on the eight. Sunday morning a low turnout which saw Alan Kelly and Frank Riordan putting in a Supreme effort to ensure that Mary O’Donovan had some extra pocket money for her upcoming trip to Tenerife. Sunday afternoon John Dineen again rose to the occasion taking the nett with Gretchen Ahern while Pat Moore and Paddy Dennehy were the gross winners
It was with profound sadness that we heard of the passing of a former member, Bunty Linehan who died over the holidays. Bunty was a lovely lady who participated in numerous competitions with her good friend, Biddy Cullinane who passed in 2017 but no doubt they are now back together having a catch up on the activities since they last met with Biddy behind the wheel doing the driving and Bunty doing the navigating. Bon Voyage Bunty.
Normal Fourball next weekend. Membership fees for 2019 are now due.
