The Christmas Competition got off to a great start on Saturday with a lovely dry clear day, bit of wind and a tad cold but it was dry and that was the bonus. Last Wednesday a good turnout which saw Billy Fitton and Gretchen Ahern paired together again and repeating the previous Sunday’s performance taking the nett while Pat Conway won the gross with Noel Mac. Frank and Catherine were paired together on Sunday morning and Catherine was hoping for divine inspiration while Frank was concentrating on the image of his pink tee to keep him focused on keeping his head down. Billy Fitton couldn’t hide his joy when his playing partner, Michael Healy Esq, got him out of trouble on the 12th with a magnificent putt. Bart Millard was present on Sunday morning to perform his annual job of officially turning back the clock. The course is in top class condition thanks to the efforts of Pat Twomey, John Ahern, Eugene and the rest of the Ground Crew that assist periodically. Gentleman John was conspicuous in his absence and was very much missed but the heath issue must take precedence and hopefully he will be back with us shortly.
After a lot of play, praying, if only, wrong predictions from J P (Nostradamus) Murphy and in one case a jockey on the ball, P J Curtin and Mary O’Donovan were declared the nett winners beating Noel Mac and Pat Moore on the back nine with a score of 38 nett while JP, who was exhausted after swishing the greens and collecting the leaves was gifted to draw Bart Millard who brought him into the winners enclosure with 9 under to take the gross also beating Noel Mac and Pat Moore on the back nine leaving them to take second nett while Rick O’Mahony and Tim Linehan after a super round took the second gross also with 9 under. There was some very fine scoring which should make for an interesting few weeks.
The vouchers continue next week with stableford which will suit the high handicappers.
