The Wednesday afternoon fourball is picking up which was evidenced by the large group that turned up on Wednesday last which saw John Ahern motivated by George Bolton taking the nett while Mick Lehane was there for the gross with Mary O’Donovan pipping Billy Fitton and Ted Canty on the back six. Saturday Noel Mac put up a €20 euro voucher for a hole in one competition in the fourball but while many tried nobody succeeded however Noel had an open draw and John Ahern was the lucky recipient. John is in terrific form at present as he also added to his tally with the gross prize on Saturday partnering John P Murphy while Noel Mac and Frank Riordan took the nett with 52 points. Dave Linehan opened a lively topic about male menopause which sparked a good humoured heated debate and included Billy, Pat & Frank until Mary O’D threw in her tuppence and had the last word as the fourball was ready to start but no doubt this will be revisited in the near future possibly over a glass of black lemonade in the comfort of the bar.
Sunday morning saw a good turnout for a threeball competition with two scores to count which saw Billy Fitton, Tim Linehan and Paddy Dennehy scoring 10 under to take the nett with a very respectable 81 while John Ahern was back again with John Dineen and Dan Shine to take the gross with nine under. John Ahern is rumoured to be moving into the tax bracket ranks of McIlroy and Harrington and is searching for a Financial Management Company to invest his earnings.
Sunday afternoon Billy Fitton in shooting form took the nett with Gretchen Ahern with a very steady 10 under netting at 37 leaving the gross for Rick O’Mahony and Pat O’Keeffe.
Next weekend starts the Christmas Competition with strokeplay on the agenda and an earlier start of 10.30 on Sunday Morning. As it is a Bank Holiday there is a continuation into Monday with a 10.30 am and a 3pm fourball. The course will remain open for green fees for the immediate future but will be closed during Club times
