Good weather makes a huge difference and this week the good weather brought out a fine crowd to each of the fourballs which saw the threesome of J P Murphy, John Ahern and Mick Lehane take the nett on Wednesday. J P was giving out that he wasn’t getting much coverage on the scoring sheet but when it was pointed out to him that he had to be paraded around the winners enclosure to make the headlines he was motivated to up his game and featured again on Saturday with Pat Conway and Billy Fitton for the nett while Rick O’Mahony took the gross with Mary Murphy and John Dineen on Saturday afternoon. Its amazing the number of people that give out to the ball when it goes where it is played but never the less its constantly blamed for missing the green or the hole and on occasions its asked what are you doing in the middle of the course when it should be sheltering under the flag.
Sunday morning a mighty crowd appeared for the 11 am fourball which saw some fine scoring and in particular Noel Mac and Mary O’Donovan shooting 54 points to take the nett and Noel Mac holing in one on the 16th to take the voucher for the designated hole in one for September. Bart Millard was in superb form scoring 9 birdies to take the gross with Pat O’Keeffe leaving second nett to Valerie O’Leary and John Ahern who had a great round. The highlight of the morning saw Pat Moore losing his knashers when his partner Margaret Bowen putted in off the back of the 5th for a magnificent four pointer. Again the craic is mighty with discussions ranging from the current Ryder Cup to what’s on the box or discussions in relation to the plan and design of dolls houses dependent on the make up of the fourball as sometimes it can be a form of meditation where silence is golden.
Sunday afternoon Gentleman John and Paddy Dennehy skipped the Ryder Cup to take the nett while JP Murphy was back for the treble with Rick O’Mahony.
Normal fourballs next weekend all members welcome and for those that haven’t been seen for a while a guided tour is available.
