Again a fantastic response from the Lakewood Members and Friends of Lakewood with the continued support to St Mary’s School. This Competition was started by the late Jim O’Shea with his wife Rene over 30 years ago and over the years generated funds that are put to development use for the children attending the school. This week the club ran the competition and as usual it was well supported with the full proceeds going to St Marys.
There were a lot of prizes up for grabs courtesy of the members who supply them every year. This year Quishs Supervalu provided additional sponsorship with the donation of 2 bottle of Powers which was put forward for 1st Nett in the fourball and won by the Lady Captain, Catherine O’Keeffe and Noel McCarthy who had a great score with 38.5 Nett.
Bart Millard and Betty White took the gross with 9 under. Dan Shine and Paddy Dennehy had 2nd nett while Mick Lehane and Mick O’Leary took 2nd gross.
Noel McCarthy and Catherine were drawn together again on Sunday night and took 3rd Nett while girl power Pat Conway and Sheila O’Leary won 3rd gross.
In the singles Josie Twomey took the nett with Val O’Leary taking Gross leaving 2nd Nett to Gretchen Ahern and 2nd gross to Pat Conway.
Mick O’Leary won the singles in the gents with 93, Rick O’Mahony took gross on par while Frank Riordan took 2nd nett with 94 and John Dineen won 2nd gross.
the course was in great shape but the playing was very hard, the drop of rain Saturday night helped to soften the greens but they were wicked fast.
